The business traces its roots to 1996, when Charles “Chuck” Hague and Susan Hague founded Brasota Mortuary Transfer. Chuck brought with him a lifetime of public service. After serving in the Navy during the Vietnam era as a military police officer, and later in the Army, he went on to build a long career in law enforcement. He served as Chief of Police in Illinois before relocating to Florida in 1986, where he continued his work with the sheriff’s department.

Before Brasota, Chuck founded West Coast Removal Service, which eventually evolved into Brasota. What began as a dedicated mortuary transport operation has grown over nearly three decades into one of Florida’s most capable funeral service support platforms.

Brasota began in 1996 with mortuary transport through Brasota Mortuary Transfer. In 1999, in response to requests from funeral home partners, the company added crematory services. In 2009, Brasota expanded again by adding a professional preparation and embalming room. Over time, the company continued to grow its facility, fleet, capabilities, and service offering to meet the needs of the funeral homes and families it supports.

Today, Brasota has grown from roughly 300 calls per year to more than 16,000 calls per year. The company operates a large fleet of mortuary transport vehicles, three state-of-the-art cremation retorts, substantial refrigeration capacity, a modern preparation and embalming room, wholesale supply operations, airport transport support, and a newly built reception and viewing room designed to better serve funeral home partners and the families they care for.

In 2025, Brasota added a beautiful reception and viewing room to provide funeral homes with a private, professional setting for ID viewings, family time, witness cremations, urn selection, and memorial displays. This addition reflects how Brasota has always operated: listening to its partners, identifying what is needed, and continuing to adapt.

For Chuck, one of the proudest moments in the company’s history was seeing his son, Chuckie, join the business and help carry it forward. Today, that family legacy continues, with the next generation also showing interest in being part of Brasota’s future.
